Mountain hiking, study hiking, field classes… Tourism vs Nature Conservation in National Parks’ program will be realized in four diverse, unique mountain national parks and one highland national park, that represent high natural values but also national and regional tourism ‘epicentres’. As significantly popular tourist attractions, these protected areas experience a range of challenges regarding reconciliation of nature conservation, local business and development and tourism.
During the field classes, we will present the environmental conditions and specifics of each of the parks as well as the potential and impacts related to tourism development. We will meet tourists but also rangers and national park staff to learn the “insider point of view” for national park management.
In each of the parks you will be assigned specific tasks that will serve as case studies and background for an in-depth analysis and discussion. We hope to encourage critical analysis of existing solutions and inspire proposals of better management, to build agenda for the future solutions.
